Island Dreaming

January 5, 2012

by Emily

This Texan is COLD in the big city, so I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to be working on a kitchen remodel project down in the land of Vitamin D abundance!  This project involves spiffing up an existing space and adding a new island. Since we are still in the design phase, I wanted to share some of the island inspiration that is guiding the design and finishes.

Their home is ranch style, so lucky for them, the floor plan is generous and spacious. They are quite fortunate to have a large kitchen connected to a casual dining/breakfast space and a completely separate formal dining area that is open to the living room.

So while their house wasn’t built in the era of open floor plans and multi-purpose spaces, they get the benefit of both worlds: a dedicated kitchen that doesn’t forgo the natural congregation element that everyone loves about a warm, welcoming home.

The design process is like a challenging puzzle using the elements of design to create something that not only meets the needs of the client, but is attractive and has staying power.  The best part?  A tangible final product.

Once complete, I look forward to sharing their updated kitchen with you!
